The paddy cultivation in our country is done in two main seasons of the year. namely MAHA and YALA. maha the more important season commences around september and extends to february or march. During this season rain is experienced in dry zone.yala normally extends form April to August.During this season, little rain is experienced in dry zone. well-known paddy growing distericts like Polonnaruwa, Anuradhapura, Hambanthota etc. are lying in the dry zone. Districts like Kandy and Colombo belong to the wet zone.In the days of the past, the paddy cultivation today is a much more complex process.Polonnaruwa lying in the dry zone has become one of the most important paddy producing districts in the sri lanka.
